Erie Niagara AHEC commenced our 1st Annual Interprofessional Case Competition on January 24th, 2022. Our Year 1 and 2 AHEC Scholars were divided into five teams consisting of 4-5 students, each of which included students from several health professions. These teams collaborated on a case study and developed an effective patient-centered care plan. The scholars spent a month actively working on their case competition videos describing their patient-centered care plan. The case competition concluded on Wednesday, February 23rd, 2022. The videos were sent to four judges: three were college professors from D'Youville College, Canisius College, and the University of Buffalo, and the fourth was a representative from our organization. The judges had to review each video with an assigned rubric between February 24th and March 6th to determine winners.
Erie Niagara AHEC hosted a luncheon on Friday, March 11th to commemorate the conclusion of the Case Competition and to announce the winning teams. Firstly, we had a brief introduction by Danise Wison, our Executive Director. After, Scholars viewed clips from each team's video before announcing the first, second, and third-place winners. Our winners of the competition are:
First Place - Kyle, Katherine, Malaiika, Dmitriy, & Olivia
Second Place - Hannah, Edneraldine, Beauty, & Vaishali
Third Place - Muhsinah, Annemarie, Fahed, Lauren, & Vijaya
Overall, the competition was a memorable and educational experience for our students, who obtained a better understanding of the complexities of the healthcare system and the importance of teamwork among healthcare professionals.
